To Gym or Not to Gym, That is the Question

Is a gym membership really the best way to achieve your personal fitness goals?

Personally, I have never been a big fan of the gym. This might sound odd coming from a certified personal trainer and someone who is passionate about personal fitness and wellness, but it has never been for me.

The lack of individualism and personal space in the average gym makes it an uncomfortable place for me to follow my fitness goals. Not to mention having to drive there and looking for parking, the sheer amount of people, waiting to use the equipment that you want, and having to clean it off. And if you don’t have headphones? The amount of noise generated from 100+ people working out at the same time is not exactly pleasant.

Cardio is probably the easiest workout to accomplish outside of the gym, which while necessary, is not always the best way to reach your fitness goals. Cardio is great for your cardiovascular health and endurance, so don’t discount it as useless, but running, jogging, and biking might not get you the strength you are searching for.
